2013 JAMB RESULTS...NEWSPAPER CONFIRMS MASSIVE EXAMINATION MALPRACTICES OF LAST SATURDAY

Massive cheating mars UTME

Massive cheating mars UTME

  • Teachers, invigilators, parents involved

  • Candidates charged N500, N1000 to use mobile phones

Despite strenuous efforts by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, to reduce malpractices in its examinations to the barest minimum through the introduction of hi-tech devices and procedures, the 2013 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, held last Saturday across the country was characterised by large scale cheating by candidates, National Mirror can now reveal. School teachers, JAMB invigilators and even parents of candidates actively participated in the cheating.

In lagos, many candidates in virtually all the centres visited by our reporters had access to the supposed answers before the commencement of the examinations. As early as 6:30a.m. some candidates were seen copying answers from their phones into pieces of paper, which they tucked in different parts of their bodies.

Most of them later entered the exam halls unhindered as the papers could not be detected by the metal detector and body searches by officials. It was not however clear how or when the JAMB question papers leaked to the public.

Nobody saw the papers but most candidates started receiving the supposed answers via SMS text massages very early in the morning. A candidate was overheard telling her friends that she got the physics answers from one Mr. Ajala her Physics teacher.

Another was overheard confirming he had got answers to all her subjects except Accounts which he urged the party on the line to send as fast as possible. From Vetland Senior High School, Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government; Ojota Grammar School, Ojota; Agidingbi Grammar School; Isolo High School, Akute; Opebi High School; Ogudu Senior Secondary School, Ogudu GRA; Dolphin High School to Boys Academy, Lagos Island, the story was the same as the candidates were seen either copying the prepared answers or making calls to obtain the answers, which appeared to be in wide circulation across the country. In one of the centres, many of the candidates did not enter the exam hall until well over an hour after the exam had started.

They were seeing copying from their phones and only entered after they had tucked the small pieces of papers under their belts, inside their socks and other hidden parts of their bodies. They were later allowed to enter in batches well after the paid time.

National Mirror investigation also revealed that the candidates were assisted by invigilators. In two of the classes in one of the centres, candidates paid N500 and N1,000 respectively to invigilators to be able to use their phones and their prepared answers.

The invigilators also watched out for JAMB officials and often warned the candidates each time they approached the classroom. National Mirror is in possession of a question paper with omission of three questions, which a candidate asked to be changed by the invigilator. She was however ignored because according to her, she refused to pay the ‘levy’. One of the invigilators at a centre in Agege, Lagos openly advised the candidates to “help” themselves.

“Feel free to show your neighbour your paper,” she urged. Also to ensure that the candidates “use” the correct answers, an invigilator was seen in one of the centres warning candidates to be sure that the answers they were copying from their phones were for the right questions. Parents were also deeply involved in the malpractices.

For instance, at Dolphin High School, Lagos, many parents were seen making calls to get the supposed answers, which they passed on to their wards in the exam halls with the help of invigilators. Although many supervisors denied knowledge of such massive cheating by the candidates, a JAMB official in charge of the 11 centres in Ikotun/Idimu area told National Mirror that over 30 candidates were caught cheating at different centres in the area with the connivance of some invigilators.

He disclosed that he had to transfer some invigilators at Comprehensive College, Ikotun, having sensed that foul play was about taking place in the exam. In Ogun State, no fewer than 82 candidates were arrested from different centres for using their phones in the exam hall or copying from pieces of papers. Also in Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, personally caught a candidate for impersonation.

“We were able to fish him out because the registration number of his answer sheet is different from the one on the slip. His slip ended with DA while the real answer sheet ended with FH. “He came with wrong slip, in order to be sure, we went to the internet and discovered that the owner of that paper is from Enugu. This boy came to impersonate and unfortunately we were able to catch him.

I took him to the biometrics and ask him to thumbprint, but there was no record of his registration. I tried it myself; there was no record of my registration. He has been handed over to the civil defense who will hand him over to the law enforcement agency. “He registered for centre 021 but came to centre 022 and 023, he was handed answer sheet of 022.We discovered that the owner of the number was meant to be in Enugu which is O21 centre,” Ojerinde told newsmen, adding that the boy later confessed that his father did it for him. Also at Model Secondary School, Maitama, two students were caught with mobile phones while another was caught with a calculator. JAMB’s spokesman, Mr. Fabian Uchenna, however pledged the Board’s resolve to sanction those involved in such malpractice, saying it was already investigating all the established cases and would not hesitate to apply appropriate sanction on any candidate found guilty. He told National Mirror yesterday that the examination body would soon come up with a comprehensive figure of candidates involved in malpractices across the country before the end of this week. Uchenna, however, denied that the leakage of JAMB questions would have emanated from the Board’s officials saying its staff are “people of integrity”

OUR COMMENT

Barons of malpractices no longer need Jamb staff to hack into the Board's computers. An 18-yr old Chinese student can do it from his village! The Barons might even attempt to change results or introduce viruses if Jamb's "new weapon" will spoil business for them. They might now be as powerful as those holding the power industry to ransome!

JAMB 2013 RESULTS…SOME CANDIDATES CHEATED LAST SATURDAY AND TURNED UP IN CHURCH ON SUNDAY FOR "MINISTRATION" AND "TESTIMONY”

[caption id="attachment_8532" align="aligncenter" width="300"]JAMB 2013…SOME CANDIDATES CHEATED LAST SATURDAY AND TURNED UP IN CHURCH ON SUNDAY FOR "MINISTRATION" AND "TESTIMONY” OH! OH! WHAT TANGLED WEBS WE WEAVE WITH FORKED TONGUES AND LYING HEARTS!..DO THEY THINK GOD IS DECEIVED?
Sometimes you wonder how God really feels about us and our many ways of deceit. If you remember armed robbers asking pastors to pray for their success then you cannot but marvel at the very great patience of our EXTREMELY TOLERANT FATHER!
Some people have estimated that last Saturday over 1million candidates out of 1.7million were probably involved in examination practice!.The intension of this post is not to examine why so many were involved. We will do that through another post coming up later.
What this post aims at is the exposition of the dishonesty and disrespect by candidates who cheat or disobey ground rules without blinking one eyelid and who then call on “God of Abraham” to solve troubles brought upon themselves. Why they do not call on satan who inspired them into trouble makes some of them sound like clowns in their statements hereby reproduced below from various websites.

CONCLUSION
1. Most likely not all these people cheated. But using the estimated number of those involved in malpractice last Saturday one can safely say more than half of those using God’s name above were doing so in vain.
2. To what happened last Saturday here is what some readers said
a.“Mak una no dey call God inside this expo things oh! Even mechanics and carpenters had all the subjects since last night.I saw a candidate that did math, not even one question was solved but she shaded all.She was just marking not all was correct though. Nigeria is in trouble!-Allen”
b.“Some candidates who are choristers in my church  cheated last Saturday and turned up on Sunday for "ministration" and "testimony”. Do they think they are deceiving God? -CHRIS

3.If JAMB does not release results as early as it did last year those who cheated should be ready for some nose-bleed.On the other hand JAMB might do so and get many results cancelled eventually. The announcement by the Minister about admission capacity might not be unrelated to what might come from JAMB.
4. This write-up  is also our way of saying that no one who cheated last Saturday should bother registering with us for post-JAMB services. And that if you have paid money into our account as specified in a recent post you should please ask for refund..You know yourselves. Or don’t you?
Thank you.

2013 JAMB RESULTS...OVER 1MILLION CANDIDATES ESTIMATED TO HAVE CHEATED LAST SATURDAY!...75% OF THEM MIGHT HAVE BEEN CAUGHT UNAWARES BY JAMB'S SECRET "WEAPON"!

JAMB 2013 RESULT:OVER 1MILLION CANDIDATES CHEATED LAST SATURDAY!QUOTES BY SOME CHEATERS WHO TOOK THE EXAM

1.   " The exam was fine o! Expo was just flying in the air to the extent that if one opened his mouth, the expo would enter. My subject combo was Math, english, literature and economics but i had to shade the expo answer i got for english, biology, physics and chemistry -Tolexande.

2.    Warri exam too sweet,,c as everybody dy dance azonto nd kukere dy go hux,,vigilator nor fit do anyhw na,,he want make nak akpako 4 im head- Evestar200

3.    Here in Ekiti state University, its cool, calm and peaceful until an Hausa man shouted Allahu Akbar, wey make everybody tear race finkin its Boko are Rams,It takes d intervention of My Oga @ d toppmost top(Nscdc) to put dose classes back in place.Bt meanwhile d expo jst dey flow to say,e dey on Fb,Twitter,2go,eskimi,Badoo even watsapp no carry last...na as i see am u talk am oo,No insult pls-sojiboy
4.    I'm writting mine in maiduguri with my two eyes outside d gate..who knows what Boko haram are planning-ZENNA

5.. It was really nice. In fact the guy wee deey solve my maths for me na genius. He answered all questions in 20 minutes. 100% in maths. Medicine here I come! I am so happy. Bashir thanks!

REPLIES BY SOME NIGERIANS HEROES TO THE QUOTES ABOVE

1.Hmmm...When do Jamb subject combo for medicine now contain maths?Btw, which school is that? If it is a school.

2.Most of d guys around my seat were copyin frm their expo, but as i saw govt answers no 1-10 nd discovered dat only 4 were correct..i den settled down nd used my head..d english, govt,nd lit in english were cheap..it was only d econs dat gave me headache..but xpectin more dan 250 though#INSHA ALLAHU#- Madawaki01
3. I can't just believe these students are very happy and cofident that they cheated in their exams.. What is the use of wasting 6years in secondary school if you cannot write jamb yourself? Judging from the comments so far,i can confidently say that our educational system is finished?(does the sign of cross).Let me tell you the truth,if all dose yeye expo stops leaking and Nigeria tightens those loop holes that enable students to cheat, only 10% i repeat only 10% of jambites will score above 200....If you cheated in this jamb, your 6years and all the money spent in training you in school is an absolute waste...It is better to fail jamb honourably than to cheat.. There is just this "force" or "energy" in nature that always elevate honest people..
LASTLY,IF YOU'RE OUT THERE AND YOU WROTE THIS JAMB YOURSELF EVEN IF YOU TICKED RUBBISH,JUST BE OPTIMISTIC AND HOPE FOR THE BEST.. IF YOU EVENTUALLY PASS,HIT YOUR HAND ON YOUR CHEST AND BE PROUD OF YOURSELF...IF YOU FAIL TO MEET THE CUT-OFF,STILL BE PROUD OF YOURSELF COS IT`S EASIER TO SCORE 400 IN JAMB THAN TO FIND MEN WHO STILL HAVE HONOUR IN THEM.. Continue being honest and you will dine with kings and princes..Kslib
4.I called a friend yesterday and my friend say him dey go write Jamb. Someone older than 25years old, a graduate for that matter. I shame. Why cant we allow those that are sitting for Jamb to write by themselves? Why are we encouraging mediocrity in the Nigerian educational system? I now visited some centres this morning where i saw some grey haired candidates also struggling to gain entrance into halls to write thesame JAMB. Nah that time i give up..okpara

5. Here in FUTO exam is yet to start, a lot of students running from post to poll for expo. A certain guy met me and was complaining that he was robbed of his phone and beaten because he was lured by some guys to come and take the leaked questions.

6.Its funny how some people honestly think they can cheat their way into school.
You see some1 who wants to study medicine carrying expo to jamb and post ume...so what are you going to do when you get in...carry expo and sort till you get out.Well like our dreaded thermo lecturer (DR Lucky) grin used to say-University is like an open continuous flow system. Where some people are begging "let me in, let me in!!", and those inside are crying "let me out!! Let me out!!"
I blame d family system actually. We all talk about corruption in high places, but we forget to mention how corrupt some families are. when a parent can actually give out money to his child to runz jamb. Well that paints the picture of the nigerian society.

7.Pls, is it d xtent tins hv gon worst? Somone even mistakenly sent d so cald expo 2 ma phone!. Sincerely speakin, i pity any body dat choose UNN as institutn of choice & hv engagd in dis malpractic, 'cos, idon be 4 dat person finish. Dis one is nt let me enter & chang, even dea pume u cant even pass. Generaly 2 everyone dat did such, cant u hav a rethink? Y nt repent?. Trouble wt Nig = Leaders. Wo ar leaders? It starts wt U

8."Some people have estimated that last Saturday over 1million candidates out of 1.7million were probably involved in examination malpractice!."EDDIE

The last statement is the basis of our next post....thank you

NEWSFLASH!

JAMB Just Released The Tactics they will Use In Finding Out Those Involved In Exams Malpractice in the Just concluded UTME Exam!!!

According to  JAMB, they stored the paper types of each candidate who participated in the just concluded UTME  in their Database...
Unlike other years where students can just change their paper type and go away with it,this year, JAMB will mark your papers according to the paper type they stored in their database for you...
This implies that if your original type was "Paper Type U" and you changed it to "Paper Type I" they wont mark your paper with the type you provided rather they will mark your paper according to paper type U...

2012 RELEVANT STATISTICS
NO OF CANDIDATES – 1,503,931
DATE OF EXAM – 24/3/2012
DATE RESULTS WERE RELEASED – 29/3/2012

QUESTIONS RELATING TO 2013 EXAMS.

A.Will JAMB release results within one week as it did in
2012 or will it wait till after the conclusion of the CBT
alternative? Let us wait to see.

B.Should students prepare their minds for the usual  annual drama covering:
-UNTIMELY RELEASE OF RESULTS BASED ON STATES OR LGAS

as a result of “ongoing investigations over alleged extortion by examination officials and special centres”. Last year, the statement from Jamb was reported  as follows “Prof Ojerinde said that of the eight states from which the 52 centres’ results were withheld, Rivers State topped the list with 24 centres, followed by Lagos with 11 centres while Imo had state 6.Others are Benue and Delta states with 3 centres each; Abia and Cross Rivers had 2 centres a piece while Nasarawa had only 1 centre results withheld.

-INCOMPLETE/INVALID RESULTS
for “further  screening” and which might be cancelled at the end of the day.
- EXAMINATION MALPRACTICES

discovered during and after the exams.

- NO RESULTS YET”OR ”YOUR PIN OR SERIAL NUMBER IS INVALID”  situations after the results are released.

C. And what will other statistical figures for 2013 show to us this week (?) as they did in 2012?Here is what Jamb gave out last year. “Of the total of1,503,931 candidates that sat for the 2012 UTME exams,833, 082 were males with 660,522 females thus representing 55.78 percent and 44.22 percent respectively.Of the total figure of over 1.5 million, 181 prisoners took part in the March 24, 2012 exams. The JAMB boss stated that the prisoners were from Kaduna and Ikoyi prisons in Lagos.Six states top the list of highest number of candidates with Imo leading by 123, 865 candidates; Delta, 88,876; Anambra, 84,204; Osun, 73, 935; Oyo, 71, 272 and Ogun with 71, 173.Also, six states mostly northern, recorded the lowest number of candidates while all other states fell within the average. The six states are Jigawa with 11, 529 candidates; Kebbi, 7, 364; Yobe, 6, 389; Zamfara, 5, 713; Sokoto, 5,664 and FCT with 3, 380
candidates.Candidates had  preference for some universities than others.11 varsities stood out as the most preferred. They are University of Lagos with a total candidates of 83, 865; Nnamdi Azikiwe, Akwa had 82,148; UniBen, 80,048; UNN, 79, 398; Unilorin, 76,276; OAU, 64,702; ABU, 56,708; Uniport, 48,439; UniUyo, 44,397; Imo State University, 43,353 and UI, 40,011. Experience this time is consistent with the earlier trends- that Nigerians have a higher preference. For some universities ahead of other tertiary institutions.Unfortunately those universities still have constraints with 83,865 candidates recorded the highest applications of 99, 115 in 2011 UTME and from the carrying capacity figure given by National Universities Commission, NUC can admit only 9,507. These figure are
only for most preferred choice and do not include those who chose Unilag as their second choice901 candidates scored above 270 – 299; 71,339 made 250 – 269; 601, 151 scored 200 – 249; 374, 920 scored 170 – 199

while 336, 330 scored below 170.However, the board recorded a

significant reduction in the number of invalid and incomplete results of 5,161 this year compared to 2011 figure of 28,069 which was also far below 2010 figure of 96,451 invalid results .” We wait patiently for Jamb’s 2013 abracadabra

TO ALL NIGERIAN STUDENTS TAKING JAMB/WAEC EXAMS,PLEASE REMEMBER WHAT WE TOLD YOU ABOUT OBJECTIVE QUESTION PAPERS!

exam hall

12 POINTS TO REMEMBER FOR YOUR JAMB EXAM

It is most likely you'll be reading this long after your JAMB EXAM if its the only one you are taking. But in case one or two of you decide to check here for any last-minute hints these are our reminders

It is in the examination hall after all that you’d be expected to display a mastery of the techniques we have told you but a few words of Solomon are not inappropriate.

1.On getting to the examination center, you will meet many archangels of the devil pretending to be saints. Many would be smiling as if there is nothing worrying them; don’t be deceived. Remember that a body of observers once announced that there are almost 50 types of examination malpractices in Nigeria .There is double personality (impersonation) and “double exam hall” Tampering with computer results, are only tips of the iceberg. There are also dramatic characters around whom we have tagged over the years as “Invigilators”, “Instigators” and “Alligators”. They move around looking for foolish students to devour. Some students affected by the examination atmosphere lose their heads, their personality and their honor believing that there is something going on which they must take part in to pass.

2.Yes some of you reading this write-up today will forget it and be drawn like cattle to slaughter. Some of you will still go tossing your flip-flops in the examination hall. Please start strengthening yourselves right away against the hours of temptation.I WANT TO ASSURE YOU THAT THE TECHNIQUES YOU NEED TO KNOW ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN ANY ALLIGATOR SUPPORT U MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR .Yes,pray fervently for the period when Satan will take you up to the highest buildings and offer you the world through its human archangels. You must learn to say “I HAVE PLANNED,PREPARED AND PRACTICED FOR THIS EXAM. LORD KEEP ME FOCUSED ON MY BATTLE PLAN.LORD KEEP ME PRESSING FORWARD TO MY JAMB VICTORY AMEN!”

3. Let us assume you are in the examination hall and JAMB question papers are in your hands and that you have been permitted to start the exams. You must observe a few things.

-Whisper a short prayer such as “LORD BE WITH ME AND IN MY UNDERSTANDING AMEN” then open your

paper.

- Next read the instructions carefully to know if they are different from those past questions papers you were using for preparation

-Note that studying for the exam itself was very serious business in a way but think of the exam itself as a game for which you must use good strategies as in a video or computer game to your maximum mileage or advantage. So before you start the exam, jot down any formulae or name you will like to remember later on which you are sure will come up or be useful.

4. Now, plan your time (pacing) for each subject in advance. Except Use of English there are 50 questions for 45 minutes. So the average expected time for each question is 54seconds. But you need more time for some subjects and time for revision at the end of the exam. For instance you can pace yourself as follows: Government-30mins, Economics-45mins,Maths-55mins, revision-5mins. Pacing can only be done after practicing with questions and answers during your study long before the examination period. Thus this is another use for those past question papers. So don’t pace yourself haphazardly without practice before the examination date!

5.For every period you allocate to each subject, you will also reallocate these periods to the 3 techniques which will be mentioned sooner than later, kapish? The choice and use of the techniques will help you to keep you within your pacing plan. Exceeding it a little will lead to failure. Don’t put yourself into quandary or what is called a TIME WARP by forgetting to check the clock or your wristwatch. One trick however is to scribble down for yourself, the desired finish time for each subject based on the time allocated. This will constantly get you prompted to check your wristwatch after the completion of each subject.

6.When you have allocated time to each subject, take a deep breath of 30 seconds after each paper before proceeding to the next one. Deep breathing clears the brain of residual matter and allows you to focus on the next set of questions.

7. Don’t jump from one subject to another. The techniques will show why you do not need to do so.

8. When you erase, make sure that you erase completely and that you are using an appropriate pencil (recommended) and eraser. The scanning machine being used is usually very sensitive to erasures and will score a smudge or incomplete erasure caused by you when you are in haste. Remember also that computer programs for the scanner machines have been built to give you a score according to the scanning process ( of course when not hijacked by agents of evil). Many students have failed to reach the expected grades by 2 or 3 marks because of mistakes such as this.

9.Any technique learned for JAMB exam must increase your speed in making choices and must also increase your accuracy in deciding the best answers.

10.Don’t panic if you cannot find the answer among the options immediately. Leave it and return to it later using the other available techniques. Please remember what was earlier said about options. They will be made up of the following:

a. An answer that is irrevocably right (best answer)

b. An answer that is true only to a limited extent vis-à-vis the question and therefore false. (Partially correct answer)

c. An answer that looks odd but is only possibly false. Any option that is partially false cannot be correct(Partially wrong answer)

d. An answer that is entirely false and is very obvious if you have complete grasp of the question. (Worst answer)

11.Don’t panic if you see questions you never anticipated or prepared for. One of the two remaining techniques will take care of such questions.

12. Definitely, doing the easiest questions first calms down the nerves and establishes your concentration for other methods.

Boston Bombing Suspects' Mom Regrets Move to US

The mother of the Boston bombing suspects said she will never accept the accusations that her sons carried out last week's deadly attack.

"No. I don't and I won't," Zubeidat Tsarnaeva told reporters here today. "Never.

"I'm sure that my kids were not involved in anything," she added, saying she would need more proof, but quickly adding that anything could be forged.

She also expressed regret for having gone to America, where she and husband Anzor Tsarnaev moved as refugees more than a decade ago.

"Why did I even go there?" the mother asked.

"We thought America was going to protect us. America took my kids away from me."

She went on to dismiss reports that her younger son, Dzhokhar, had already spoken about how the brothers planned the attack, questioning the veracity of news reports.

The mother spoke at an emotional news conference here alongside her husband. They grieved for their sons, but were at times visibly angry, pounding the table as they demanded more evidence that their sons were guilty, as well as proof that their elder son, Tamerlan, was not killed by police after being captured alive.

The couple cited videos they had seen on the Internet that claim to show Tamerlan being detained by police, followed by a gruesome photo of a naked dead body.

The father said he planned to travel soon to Boston to collect Tamerlan's body. He said they do not yet know whether they will bury him here or in the United States.

The parents also expressed frustration that they had been told they would not be allowed to visit Dzhokhar, the younger brother who was captured alive.

They said Dzhokhar, who suffered severe neck wounds, was being fed through a tube.

The mother, meanwhile, plans to remain in Dagestan for now. She denied the decision to stay behind was motivated by a fear that she could be arrested in the United States because of an outstanding warrant related to charges of shoplifting.

She called that incident "minor" and said that lawyers had secured some assurances that she would not be detained upon arrival.

The parents insisted that Tamerlan's trip to this region last year was only to visit family he had not seen in more than a decade and to attend a relative's wedding.

The father said it was impossible for Tamerlan to have made contact with extremists or militants during his six-month visit, saying his son never left his side during the three months they overlapped here.

Investigators want to know more about what Tamerlan did here during that time, concerned that he could have become radicalized in this restive region that is home to a militant Islamist uprising.

The FBI interviewed the parents this week in an effort to learn more about their sons and to inquire about Tamerlan's visit to Dagestan.

It was not the first time the parents had been questioned about Tamerlan by the FBI.

In 2011, the bureau, acting on a request from the Russian government, interviewed Tamerlan about possible links to extremists and militants abroad. In a statement Friday, the FBI said it found nothing suspicious at the time.

Tamerlan's parents, meanwhile, said his visit was a peaceful one. They say he enjoyed re-discovering the region where he lived for a few months as young teenager, visiting the beach and getting to know long-lost relatives.

The father said they attended prayers at several mosques around town, including the main mosque in downtown Makhachkala, as well as others, like a Salafist mosque on Katrova Street, that has drawn the eye of authorities.

The Imam there told ABC News Wednesday that they had never seen Tamerlan there, but noted that they have many people who attend prayers, with the faithful often forced to pray out in the street for lack of space.

The mother denied the mosque was as radical as some have claimed, asking why, then, it was still allowed to operate.

The mother said she never detected signs that her son had become radical.

She denied reports that a mysterious man named Misha, an Armenian convert to Islam, had radicalized Tamerlan.

She described Misha, whose last name and identity remain a mystery, as "the nicest man."

She said Tamerlan had befriended him at the mosque and he came to their house at least twice. While there, Misha showed them how to pray and the mother said that she was ashamed a convert knew Islamic traditions better than she did.

After Misha left, she said they were in awe of him and sought to follow his example.

MEET THE TWO IMMIGRANT RUNNERS WRONGLY FINGERED AS "POSSIBLE SUSPECTS" IN THE BOSTON MARATHON BOMBING

The two men described as “possible suspects” in the Boston Marathon bombing are actually a 24-year-old track coach and a teenage high school runner who works at Subway and posted photos to Facebook of his trip Monday to watch the race.

Yassine Zaimi and student Salaheddin Barhoum, 17, had their photos published today on the front page of the New York Post, which described them as “Bag Men” whose identity was being sought by investigators probing the deadly terror attack.

As seen below, the Post photo, which includes red circles around Zaimi and Barhoum, is slugged “suspect--525x415.jpg.” Barhoum is pictured wearing a blue Adidas warmup jacket, while Zaimi is seen in a white baseball cap.

Several photos of Zaimi and Barhoum watching the race from near the Copley Square finish line have been widely circulated online by amateur sleuths attempting to determine who might have been responsible for detonating the pressure cooker bombs.

In a CNN update last night, correspondent Deborah Feyerick reported that investigators were looking at two “possible suspects” who had initially been considered “men of interest.” However, Feyerick added, the pair had subsequently “risen to the top of the list” of probers. While not showing photos of the two purported suspects, Feyerick gave detailed descriptions of the pair’s clothing and the bags they carried.

Feyerick was describing Zaimi and Barhoum, though she, like the Post, clearly did not know the identities of her purported suspects.

CNN anchor Erin Burnett reported this afternoon that investigators alerted to photos of the two spectators because “perhaps” the bags they carried “were bigger than they should be.” Large enough, presumably, to fit six-liter pressure cookers. Burnett also reported that photos of the duo "hovering" near the finish line were not being disseminated by federal agents due to fear that such a release “could impede the investigation.”

Barhoum, a Moroccan immigrant who attends Revere High School outside Boston, apparently became aware yesterday that his photo was being linked to the bomb plot. In a Facebook post he assured his 1776 friends that “u will see guys I’m did not do anything.” Noting that “Shit is real,” Barhoum reported that he was going “to the court rightnow,” adding later that, “I’m just going to tell them that it was not me.”

Barhoum’s Facebook page includes two photos snapped at the marathon. One image depicts the teen--who runs for his school and the Momentum Athletic Club--posing in front of a scrim with the race logo, while the other shows a large TV screen erected on the corner of Boylston and Exeter streets, a block from the finish line. The caption of the second photo, which was taken as three top women runners dueled for the lead, reads, “Boston marathon 117th) Kenya and Ethiopia had a lot of fun lmfao – with Yassine Zaimi.” The winner of the women's race was Kenyan Rita Jeptoo, while Ethiopian Lelisa Desisa Benti was the fastest male runner.

A third Facebook photo, posted March 24, shows Barhoum “Bored at work” at a Subway restaurant.

Zaimi, a Boston resident, is a Moroccan immigrant who also attended Revere High School. In Facebook posts, Barhoum refers to Zaimi as his “coach.”

According to Zaimi’s Facebook page, he has worked at State Street Bank & Trust and JPMorgan Chase. Additionally, Zaimi’s Facebook page is stocked with tourist-type photos of him posing around Boston. The shots include Zaimi wearing a colonial tri-corner hat, standing in front of a Samuel Adams statue at Faneuil Hall, and resting his elbow on a statue of late Boston Celtics legend Red Auerbach.

In April 2010, Zaimi won a five-kilometer charity race in suburban Boston that raised funds to send medical equipment to Morocco.

In a post to a web site that aids the recruitment of college athletes, Barhoum wrote of his devotion to running. “I been doing this since I was 12 years and I enjoy it… I feel great when I run with clubs more than when I run with school because clubs take it serious and the coaches have more techniques to teach.” The teenager, who graduates in 2015, added, “My dream is to get to the level where everybody who works hard deserve .and  I want to say thank you to the people who supported me in this.”

LAST MINUTE REMINDERS ON JAMB EXAM AND JAMB MATHEMATICS!

FOR JAMB EXAMS

1. Avoid “expo” arrangements like plague. Most time they will fail you. You could also land in jail.

2. Visit your examination center at least once so that the examination environment on the exam day will not be completely new. Look at the classrooms. Feel the furniture. Imagine the crowd around on the exam day and see yourself there cool and calm.

3. The day before the exams ensure that all expected documents (original + photocopies) are with you pen/pencil, eraser, sharpener, log table are kept at a place where your kid brother or sister cannot get them.

4. On the day of the exam leave home very early.

5. Getting to the exam location, keep your composure. Other students are also as nervous as you are. The difference is your being able to keep calm despite the anxiety within.

6. Disregard those reading “textbooks” at the exam center. Check for the room where your number is located and determine all the time that you will not be affected by the exam atmosphere.

7. In the exam hall pray to God to lead you successfully. Read instructions carefully. Do not be disturbed by the ruffling sheets of students in a hurry or who might have started before you.

 8. Push Maths aside until you have done other subjects thereby saving yourself time for Maths later. Use appropriate pencil.

9. ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS. Avoid “no result situations”. Turn to kalo kalo in any emergency situation if need be.

10. Do not rush to be the first out of exam hall. Law students are usually guilt of this. But once finished, go home. Do not discuss the exam with anyone. Not even your closest friend!

FOR JAMB MATHEMATICS

11. Do you realize you have an average of only 54 seconds for each question?

12. Do you also realize that reading each question itself might take you up to10 and 24 seconds? So do you really have more than 30 seconds on the average for working each problem?

13. Actually there are four types of  Jamb  Maths questions:

(a). Those you can answer by mental elimination of options (options that are not likely to be the answer).

(b). Those you can answer by mental calculation.

(c). Those you can answer by written simplification

(d). Those you can answer only by "full working". These are otherwise called TIME WASTERS.

 14. AVOID those under 13(d) like plague till you have answered all those under 3(a) – (c). Use kalo-kalo method for 3(d) usually close to the end of the examination. Don't pretend you can be a Professor of Mathematics because you don't have the time. This method might also be useful for all calculation-based subjects such as Physics, Chemistry or to some extent, Economics.

 15. Where possible use methods and formulas instead of tables e.g. 882 – 122, = (88 + 12)(88 - 12) . 100 × 76
