4.I called a friend yesterday and my friend say him dey go write Jamb. Someone older than 25years old, a graduate for that matter. I shame. And what will other statistical figures for 2013 show to us this week (?) as they did in 2012?Here is what Jamb gave out last year. “Of the total of1,503,931 candidates that sat for the 2012 UTME exams,833, 082 were males with 660,522 females thus representing 55.78 percent and 44.22 percent respectively.Of the total figure of over 1.5 million, 181 prisoners took part in the March 24, 2012 exams. The JAMB boss stated that the prisoners were from Kaduna and Ikoyi prisons in Lagos.Six states top the list of highest number of candidates with Imo leading by 123, 865 candidates; Delta, 88,876; Anambra, 84,204; Osun, 73, 935; Oyo, 71, 272 and Ogun with 71, 173.Also, six states mostly northern,recorded the lowest number of candidates while all other states fell within the average.The six states are Jigawa with 11, 529 candidates; Kebbi, 7, 364; Yobe, 6, 389; Zamfara, 5, 713; Sokoto, 5,664 and FCT with 3, 380
candidates.Candidates had  preference for some universities than others.11 varsities stood out as the most preferred. They are University of Lagos with a total candidates of 83, 865; Nnamdi Azikiwe, Akwa had 82,148; UniBen, 80,048; UNN, 79, 398; Unilorin, 76,276; OAU, 64,702; ABU, 56,708; Uniport, 48,439; UniUyo, 44,397; Imo State University, 43,353 and UI, 40,011. Experience this time is consistent with the earlier trends- that Nigerians have a higher preference. For some universities ahead of other tertiary institutions.Unfortunately those universities still have constraints with 83,865 candidates recorded the highest applications of 99, 115 in 2011 UTME and from the carrying capacity figure given by National Universities Commission, NUC can admit only 9,507. These figure are
only for most preferred choice and do not include those who chose Unilag as their second choice901 candidates scored above 270 – 299; 71,339 made 250 – 269; 601, 151 scored 200 – 249; 374, 920 scored 170 – 199

while 336, 330 scored below 170.However, the board recorded a

12 POINTS TO REMEMBER FOR YOUR JAMB EXAM

It is most likely you'll be reading this long after your JAMB EXAM if its the only one you are taking.But in case one or two of you decide to check here for any last-minute hints these are our reminders

It is in the examination hall after all that you’d be expected to display a mastery of the techniques we have told you but a few words of Solomon are not inappropriate.

1.On getting to the examination center, you will meet many archangels of the devil pretending to be saints. Many would be smiling as if there is nothing worrying them; don’t be deceived. Remember that a body of observers once announced that there are almost 50 types of examination malpractices in Nigeria .There is double personality (impersonation) and “double exam hall” Tampering with computer results, are only tips of the iceberg. There are also dramatic characters around whom we have tagged over the years as “Invigilators”, “Instigators” and “Alligators”. They move around looking for foolish students to devour. Some students affected by the examination atmosphere lose their heads, their personality and their honor believing that there is something going on which they must take part in to pass.

2.Yes some of you reading this write-up today will forget it and be drawn like cattle to slaughter. Some of you will still go tossing your flip-flops in the examination hall. Please start strengthening yourselves right away against the hours of temptation.I WANT TO ASSURE YOU THAT THE TECHNIQUES YOU NEED TO KNOW ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN ANY ALLIGATOR SUPPORT U MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR .Yes,pray fervently for the period when Satan will take you up to the highest buildings and offer you the world through its human archangels.You must learn to say “I HAVE PLANNED,PREPARED AND PRACTICED FOR THIS EXAM. LORD KEEP ME FOCUSED ON MY BATTLE PLAN.LORD KEEP ME PRESSING FORWARD TO MY JAMB VICTORY AMEN!”

3. Let us assume you are in the examination hall and JAMB question papers are in your hands and that you have been permitted to start the exams. You must observe a few things.

-Whisper a short prayer such as “LORD BE WITH ME AND IN MY UNDERSTANDING AMEN” then open your

paper.

- Next read the instructions carefully to know if they are different from those past questions papers you were using for preparation

-Note that studying for the exam itself was very serious business in a way but think of the exam itself as a game for which you must use good strategies as in a video or computer game to your maximum mileage or advantage. So before you start the exam, jot down any formulae or name you will like to remember later on which you are sure will come up or be useful.

4. Now, plan your time (pacing) for each subject in advance. Except Use of English there are 50 questions for 45 minutes. So the average expected time for each question is 54seconds. But you need more time for some subjects and time for revision at the end of the exam. For instance you can pace yourself as follows: Government-30mins, Economics-45mins,Maths-55mins, revision-5mins. Pacing can only be done after practicing with questions and answers during your study long before the examination period. Thus this is another use for those past question papers. So don’t pace yourself haphazardly without practice before the examination date!

5.For every period you allocate to each subject, you will also reallocate these periods to the 3 techniques which will be mentioned sooner than later,kapish? The choice and use of the techniques will help you to keep you within your pacing plan. Exceeding it a little will lead to failure. Don’t put yourself into quandary or what is called a TIME WARP by forgetting to check the clock or your wristwatch. One trick however is to scribble down for yourself, the desired finish time for each subject based on the time allocated. This will constantly get you prompted to check your wristwatch after the completion of each subject.

6.When you have allocated time to each subject, take a deep breath of 30 seconds after each paper before proceeding to the next one. Deep breathing clears the brain of residual matter and allows you to focus on the next set of questions.

7. Don’t jump from one subject to another. The techniques will show why you do not need to do so.

8. When you erase, make sure that you erase completely and that you are using an appropriate pencil (recommended) and eraser. The scanning machine being used is usually very sensitive to erasures and will score a smudge or incomplete erasure caused by you when you are in haste. Remember also that computer programs for the scanner machines have been built to give you a score according to the scanning process ( of course when not hijacked by agents of evil). Many students have failed to reach the expected grades by 2 or 3 marks because of mistakes such as this.

9.Any technique learned for JAMB exam must increase your speed in making choices and must also increase your accuracy in deciding the best answers.

10.Don’t panic if you cannot find the answer among the options immediately. Leave it and return to it later using the other available techniques.Please remember what was earlier said about options. They will be made up of the following:

a. An answer that is irrevocably right (best answer)

b. An answer that is true only to a limited extent vis-à-vis the question and therefore false. (Partially correct answer)

c. An answer that looks odd but is only possibly false. Any option that is partially false cannot be correct(Partially wrong answer)

d. An answer that is entirely false and is very obvious if you have complete grasp of the question. (Worst answer)

11.Don’t panic if you see questions you never anticipated or prepared for. One of the two remaining techniques will take care of such questions.

12. Definitely, doing the easiest questions first calms down the nerves and establishes your concentration for other methods.

LAST MINUTE REMINDERS ON JAMB EXAM AND JAMB MATHEMATICS!

FOR JAMB EXAMS

1. Avoid “expo” arrangements like plague. Most time they will fail you. You could also land in jail.

2. Visit your examination center at least once so that the examination environment on the exam day will not be completely new. Look at the classrooms. Feel the furniture. Imagine the crowd around on the exam day and see yourself there cool and calm.

3. The day before the exams ensure that all expected documents (original + photocopies) are with you pen/pencil, eraser, sharpener, log table are kept at a place where your kid brother or sister cannot get them. 

4. On the day of the exam leave home very early.

5. Getting to the exam location, keep your composure. Other students are also as nervous as you are. The difference is your being able to keep calm despite the anxiety within.

6. Disregard those reading “textbooks” at the exam center. Check for the room where your number is located and determine all the time that you will not be affected by the exam atmosphere.

7. In the exam hall pray to God to lead you successfully. Read instructions carefully. Do not be disturbed by the ruffling sheets of students in a hurry or who might have started before you.

 8. Push Maths aside until you have done other subjects thereby saving yourself time for Maths later. Use appropriate pencil.

9. ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS. Avoid “no result situations”. Turn to kalo kalo in any emergency situation if need be.

10. Do not rush to be the first out of exam hall. Law students are usually guilt of this. But once finished, go home. Do not discuss the exam with anyone. Not even your closest friend!

FOR JAMB MATHEMATICS

11. Do you realize you have an average of only 54 seconds for each question?

12. Do you also realize that reading each question itself might take you up to10 and 24 seconds? So do you really have more than 30 seconds on the average for working each problem?

13. Actually there are four types of  Jamb  Maths questions:

(a). Those you can answer by mental elimination of options (options that are not likely to be the answer).

(b). Those you can answer by mental calculation.

(c). Those you can answer by written simplification

(d). Those you can answer only by "full working". These are otherwise called TIME WASTERS.

 14. AVOID those under 13(d) like plague till you have answered all those under 3(a) – (c). Use kalo-kalo method for 3(d) usually close to the end of the examination. Don't pretend you can be a Professor of Mathematics because you don't have the time. This method might also be useful for all calculation-based subjects such as Physics, Chemistry or to some extent, Economics.

 15. Where possible use methods and formulas instead of tables e.g. 88² – 12², = (88 + 12)(88 - 12) . 100 × 76

…now that you have been given  theoretical explanations  on jamb techniques (less work without cheating parts 1 -7) you need to build some confidence in yourself to maximize the benefits of those notes…one way to start is by the 10 commandments stated below…

1.Thou shalt fill thy jamb forms smartly especially thy choices of universities,courses, jamb exam subjects and exam format.


2.Thou shalt plan thy studies and follow up  with your examination plan without wavering.

3.Thou shalt make thy exam scrapbook as thou wert commanded based on past question papers

4.Thou shalt make use of past Q/A booklets smartly as indicated .Thou shalt also decide which of the two new examination formats shall be most suitable for  thy strategies. Most candidates,however, are avoiding computer-based format for now!

5.Thou shalt  know thy exam location and case its environment and exam hall long before the actual date of exam.

7. On the day of the exam thou shalt focus on thy techniques and not on unreliable  alligators  surrounding thy presence

8.In the exam hall though shalt plan the timing of thy answers and keep strictly to the plan

9. Thou shalt also answer easier topics and subjects first.If taking maths restrain thyself from  taking even a peep at it until thou hast answered all the others (if it is one of thy subjects)

10. And lastly but not the least,thou SHALT answer all questions!

1. Be generally prayerful and avoid careless and carefree attitudes

2.Note the practical tools mentioned in parts1 to 7 of the write-up mentioned above.These tools are:

7. The day before the exam ensure that your id card registration slip and purchase receipt original plus photocopies are with you. Your pen pencil, eraser, sharpener, log table etc.are kept at a place where your kid brother or sister cannot get  at them

8. On the day of the exam leave home very early .On getting to the exam location keep your composure. Remember that other students are also as nervous as you are but the difference is that some persons can look cool, calm and collected on the surface despite the anxiety within them.

 9. Disregard those reading textbooks at the exam centers but you may refer to your scrap book if you want to. Do not take any textbook to the exam hall

10.Jamb’s focus is on speed and accuracy.A MATHS PROFESSOR CAN FAIL jamb if he decides to devote all his time to scoring maximum available score in maths only…

Getting late to the exam hall, or not bothering to know the exact location of the exam hall  before the date of the exam.

By looking at the faces of other students before the exam and becoming jelly –like thinking  they are likely to be better than you or that they are probably better prepared than you.

By failing to be a battle tank in the exam hall. To be a battle tank in the exam hall, pray ,concentrate ,get smart on techniques ,get even smarter by not tackling harder subjects  like maths first or physics.

4 BY SUCCUMBING TO THE USUAL PROBLEM OF UNBELIEF COMMON AMONG LAZY STUDENTS

Students are not always ready to let go of old study methods they are used to.Even where they are taught new techniques or method they still prefer to use their own ways which had failed them many times

The problem is not because they do not understand the new methods but because moving over to new methods involve yielding like a Christian on the basis of faith –something whose effect might not be immediately seen.

It is also because they still need to build up their confidence or faith  by regular practice which is also challenge on its own especially to the very lazy ones

Again not every listener in the church believes or is carried along by the pastor. Some don’t even understand what the pastor is saying. they hear about the heaven all the time but it continues to hold  only REMOTE possibilities for them. They are still hesitant about taking the step or leap of faith or making a commitment to new ways

But what students need do is to learn how not to attempt taking giant leaps but little steps of progress one after the other. These steps are recognizable by the following acts.

(a)     Planning an examination  study timetable

(b)    Writing Red Notes or revision notes.

(c)      Putting the three techniques of JAMB by EDUPEDIA into action.

But what exactly do EDUPEDIA techniques or jamb write –up say?

(a). Jamb question can be divided into  EASY, HARD and POSSIBLE questions. Students are to remember,however, that what is hard for them  may not be so for  others.

(b). Jamb answers can be divided  into BEST ANSWER , PARTLY  CORRECT  ANSWER .PARTLY WRONG ANSWER and TOTALLY WRONG ANSWER. But Jamb is interested in  BEST ANSWERS ONLY! Unfortunately many students get deceived/distracted by partly correct answers(same as partly wrong answers)

            Ogbunigwe method for POSSIBLE QUESTIONS and

             Bafana Bafana method for HARD QUESTIONS

DO  EXAMINERS LEAVE HINTS DELIBERATELY IN QUESTION PAPERS?

1.This write-up came straight out of the notes on the OGBUNIGWE method.It has been separated to improve your ability at choosing  the most likely best answer from a group of options based on hints to be found within the questions provided.They are a bit more technical than most of the notes given so far but they are like leaving the best for the last!

2.Since we don’t expect too many questions to be covered by OGBUNIGWE it might be asked why go into the section at all.But experience has also revealed that students’ successes or failure can depend on 2 or 4 extra marks which can be provided by the OGBUNIGWE  method.So  perhaps the effort is worth it after all.

3.So do examiners provide hints deliberately?We can look at the issue from two main different levels:

(a) JAMB examiners and the system of finalizing their question papers hardly provide deliberate hints.So some of the hints provided below are contrived by close and deliberate observation of past JAMB questions based on the assumption that no human system is totally fail-proof.

(b) But it has also been observed that some tutors setting internal school exams get to be a bit less careful than JAMB examiners.Therefore many of the hints below are likely to be more observable in school exams than national ones like JAMB,WAEC and NECO.In some schools examiners can mistakenly or deliberately have such hints for smart students to use.

4.Now applying the issue of hints in question papers to the  Ogbunigwe method what to do is to  look for what are called PROMPTERS,that is, if you have the time.AND PLEASE NOTE THAT IT  SHOULD COME FROM PRACTICE DURING  PRIVATE STUDIES LONG BEFORE THE EXAM. It is like playing a Hercules Poirot (detective) cool and calm logical game but the exam atmosphere will hardly allow you  such luxury if not well-practiced in advance.



…JAMB group discussion in progress…we hardly allow cameras in the classrooms during studies or academic work…there must have been a good reason for the presence of the cameraman and photographer!…

5. Though examples of such prompters  are many don’t get distracted by them because examiners themselves are trained to avoid leaving hints to students all over question papers.But you will notice from these examples that some of the prompters do not arise from mistakes by examiners:

(a) Grammatical inconsistencies:

By matching the question with the answer that most connects e.g. the correct answer to a question which ends in “an”, would obviously be an option starting with a vowel. Watch out also for agreement of subjects and verbs. However only very few examiners especially in schools internal exam make mistakes like this.

(b) Vague terminology:

If you run into a terminology that you do not understand in the stem you should simplify the question further by rewording it. E.g. where there are double negatives as in “milk is not a non-alcoholic beverage”, it can be turned to “milk is an alcoholic beverage”. If there are no double negatives, just attempt to simplify the sentence into a simpler form by defining them in your own words (in your head of course) that you can answer yes or no to. By reducing the question to a yes or no question, you will be in a better position to reduce the available options. Once you have eliminated one or two options under this method, you should draw a line over the eliminated options on your question paper so that when you are back to it, you don’t let it waste your time rereading those that you have decided are clearly wrong.

(c) Key words in the stem:

In rephrasing questions for simplification, always note that the keywords and phrases hold the aces for appropriate elimination of options.

(d) Equal answers (or over-lapping answers):

If the examiner includes two equally reasonable and seemingly correct answers (if two alternatives say exactly the same thing when interpreted or simplified, both of them are wrong), don’t be misled that two answers which are the same can be correct e.g. if 6 and ½ dozen are among the options, they are obvious signs that they are not the answers. Of course, distractions also appear in other ways, please note that the elimination method options that are not viable are such as these are called FILLERS (for filling the space for options).

(e) Silly or suspicious words among the options suggesting illogicality:

These are to be eliminated outright without wasting time

(f) Opposite answers (partner choices):

If two answers are exactly opposite, one of them is likely to be the answer.

(g) Longest and most complicated answer: 

This is likely to be the answer because it usually reveals the effort by an examiner to make the answer complete or precise. However please note that some extra long or jargon options can however be used as decoys for obvious and best answers. You must check all the options before making a choice.

(h) Similar answers (similar pairs):

If there are two similar answers, the correct one would be between the two e.g. if the options are 4, 52, 65 and 506. The answer is likely to be either 52 or 65 (see further notes below)

(i) Qualifying words (qualifiers):

Where the options contain words such as “some”, “few”, ‘more”, “seldom”, ‘often”, “least likely”, “most likely”, “sometimes”, “usually”, “perhaps”, “may”, “generally”, such answers are likely to be correct.

(j) Superlative words:

Where the options contain words such as “always”, “never”, “all”, “every”, “in no case”, “in every case”, “completely”, “totally”, “only”, “none”, which are usually restrictive, they are usually  difficult to defend and are rarely correct.

(k) “All of the above” option:

If this is one of the options and two other alternatives are correct it is likely that “all the above” will be the correct option even if the remaining option is not clear to you. If only one other alternative is correct it is not likely to be a good choice.

(l) “None of the above” option:

If two alternatives are incorrect it is likely that the correct answer will be “none of the above” even if the remaining option is not so clear to you.

Time wasters:Always remember that “all the above” or “none of the above” questions can turn out to be time wasters. Keep this in mind for your time management to decide whether you want to answer them under elimination technique or just under the guessing game technique

(m) Similar sounding options (similar parts):

If two alternatives contain similar sounding words such as “subordination” or “subjugation” either of these like 52 or 65 under (h) above will be correct. It does not matter whether they are both A and D or A and B or B and D or C and D. the answer should be picked from one of the two.

(n) Prefixes/ suffixes/ root words:

Use your knowledge of common prefixes and suffixes and word roots to make intelligent guesses about terminology that you don’t know e.g. knowledge of the prefix “hyper” for instance would show that hypertension refers to high and not low blood pressure in the options.

(o) Network hints: 

Answers to one question may sometimes be given in another question (common in internal school exams). JAMB exam may contain some of such hints once in a while.

(p) Except/ Not/Least:

As a follow up to what was written on vague terminology, watch out for the use of words like except, not and least in the stem. You will also need to simplify the statement before you answer. These words are seen as negative words and are usually PRINTED in capital letters,italics or underlined in the stem.

(B) BAFANA BAFANA METHOD (THE GUESSING GAME)

1. This is a fancy name for the 2^{nd JAMB} technique.The name given to it was influenced by a soccer competition going on at the time of this write up.It  is a method based on probabilities like in soccer pools ,lotteries or slot machines. Another name for it is AMBLING AND GAMBLING! It can also be called the “act of a one eyed, one armed bandit”!  Despite its name and derived meanings it is a serious game that could decide the fate of many students.


2. Fortunately or unfortunately it is not based on any observation or simplest form of logic . It is based on what is called a hunch, instinct, feeling or intuition. It is an elimination process that allows you to create more time for application of the third method  if need be.


3. This method is to “flow with ones feeling”. The general rule is that one should not go against one’s impulse unless you are sure you are wrong.

       4. Bafana Bafana is usually used for questions classified as HARD after Operation Sweep has been fully applied to EASY ones.Hard questions as said earlier are those u have no clues about making it difficult to reduce options given.

       5. In simple terms,statisticians have advised that students should choose either B or C if they are still among the options not   yet                    eliminated mentally.

        6. Specifically, if you have A,B,C or B,C,D you may  toss a coin in your head  or choose them alternately.

        7.A and D are not usually picked because examiners regularly use them  as ALUMINIUM FOILS to wrap their answers in B or C. So             some experts have suggested when in serious doubt the probability of being correct when B or C is chosen is as high   as   40%, that is, 4 out of 10.

        8.The same experts  have also said when in doubt go along with your first guess, hunch  or feeling to save time for the third method    which requires more logical thinking from available hints,if any.

(C) “OGBUNIGWE” (HINTS) METHOD

1.When the other two methods  have been used to the fullest, all the remaining questions which are usually made up of  DISTRACTERS or TIME-WASTERS should be subjected to the third technique called OGBUNIGWE.It is  so-called to grab the attention of Nigerian students to its substance.

2.OGBUNIGWE refers to land mines used by our brothers from eastern states during the Nigerian Civil War to eliminate en-mass many soldiers from the  federal side. It was mass elimination by choice depending on the areas the Biafrans felt were mostly in need. Conventional weapons were short in supply and tactics were based on the simple logic to kill many “birds” with limited number of stones(land mines) available.And it was effective for awhile with demoralising impact on the federal troops.

3.When applied to JAMB exams especially for  making choices among options, the process can be described as a way for killing all distracters or time-wasters  by logical observation and choice after  the first two methods have been applied. Remember that in JAMB most of the questions called TIME-WASTERS have to be decided between two similar alternatives or three similar options. The third method is different in the sense that one usually need an idea or a “PROMPTER” to help one in making an informed decision or an educated guess for a “kill”

4.It can be called logical guessing  while the B.B. can be called psychological guessing based on personal feeling or intuition.

5.   This is a method that can only be used when you have created or crafted some extra time by using the other two methods smartly. The technique should never be used before the other two methods.

6. The next question to ask then are what are these hints which can be used under this method? Mercifully experts in several write-ups have listed almost twenty of them which we have extracted after downloading and reading almost 800 pages of their opinions! They have been listed as the final write-up (part 7) for passing JAMB without cheating!

(D) BUT A FEW MORE WORDS OF CAUTION ON THE THREE TECHNIQUES !

 7.Knowing these techniques without putting them into active use before the examination is of no use.

   8. And for any practice session please give yourself a test and afterwards subject  your performance to some logical analysis by drawing up what we have called THE EDUPEDIA JAMB TECHNIQUES MATRIX (please see an example below) .Please ask any tutor in charge of your preparations for JAMB to explain the matrix and it implications to you.As you can see the number of questions usually based on hints should be very few.

    10. Double answers or blank answers are not smart: they will be treated as incorrect answers by the scanner.

     11.  NEVER panic if you see a question you did not expect or prepare for. Use your hunch to take a decision on the options as                  indicated under BAFANA BAFANA!


     12. ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS unless there is an instruction on the papers that says you should not.

     13.Don’t be the first to leave the exam hall. Revise your work if there is time.

JAMB TECHNIQUES

9.Any technique learned  for JAMB exam must increase your speed in making choices and must also increase your accuracy in deciding the best answers.The names we have given to the techniques for quicker understanding by Nigeria students are:

(a)“OPERATION SWEEP”  (PREDICTION METHOD)

(b)“BAFANA BAFANA”  (GUESSING  GAME METHOD)

(c)“OGBUNIGWE”  ( ELIMINATION METHOD)

Let us write more notes on each method  specifying  how exactly they should be used under different circumstances during the exams.

  “OPERATION SWEEP” METHOD.

10.Operation Sweep was a quick intervention force in the Nigerian Police for battling armed robbers especially. But it later changed it’s name  to  Rapid Response Service (RRS)

10.The other names for this method are “SURVEY WITH ANTICIPATION” or “ANSWER PREDICTION METHOD”. The philosophy behind the method is to take a 100 meter dash across relatively easier questions self-classified  as EASY. The idea is to send the possible and hard questions mentally to the other two techniques by marking them as you go over the question papeer. The method is based on the belief that some questions are give –away ( or take-away in the Nigerian sense). When you see such questions there is no need to suspect the examiner of trying to deceive you. Just be careful when the answer you want to pick is option A  cause it may be a sign that you should check the other options too. But don’t decide against an option because it looks too easy.

11. It is also called “answer search”, “answer prediction” or “derivative” method because you are only to read the questions not the options before making your choice. You are expected to cover up the options with your hand to decide what the  answer is then look  at the options available. If your answer is among the options, pick it and move to the next question.

         For emphasis,

• Block with your hand all the answers


• Decide the best answer mentally


• Remove your hand and see if the best answer is among the options. If so, choose it.


• However, you will be well advised to  read other options if you have found the right answer because JAMB  questions are based on the “best” answer  approach. You are expected to select not only a technically correct answer but the most completely correct (best) answer

12.Don’t spend more than 30 seconds on any predictive answer. Any question answered should be either crossed out

        on the question paper .

  13.Don’t panic if you cannot find the answer among the options immediately. Leave it and return to it later using the other available techniques.

14. As mentioned earlier, accept questions at their face values and stop thinking there are tricks or that the questions are wrong.

        Don’t  second guess the examiner or try to get too simplistic or too elaborate or you will find that you are answering your

        own  questions.

15. Just because you have chosen the same letter a few times say, 3 times in a row (e.g. 3 B’s) does not make you wrong in picking another “B” for the next question.



is that not amarachi dancing like it was going  to be out of supply…again body and soul fully involved!…that’s life!…when we refer to some of those dancing here as Facebook people they’ll remember we were in touch with them just before the end of September…hope all is well…virtually all went through JAMB into various universities and got to know about the same techniques and exam scrapbook which was then known  as the Red Note…

16.The method uses recognition memory but could be less effective for someone who has tension in the exam hall. Only those who are relaxed and confident(purpose of teaching techniques) can benefit from the method. The major act  is to recall what is in the exam scrapbook in relation to  questions  asked. The process is as follows: read question—–recognize the key points—–recall information from the exam scrap book—-decide answer— look at the options—-choose option.

17. This method is the only purest effort in the JAMB exam which tries to answer the questions directly. On the other hand the other methods behave more like answering the answers presented(as we shall observe later)


18.Once you have chosen your answers don’t change them later on when your brain is less efficient. Studies have shown that when students change their answers later on, they usually change them to wrong answers.

19.If you are finally certain of the first answer, leave it as it is. Stick to it. Change answers only if your earlier answer was a guess or if you missed the question e.g. you did not notice a qualifier such as “not” or “always” in the question.

20.Don’t panic if you see questions you never anticipated or prepared for. One of the two remaining techniques will take care of such questions.

21.In using this method, please remember what was earlier said about options. They will be made up of the following:         

a.   An answer that is irrevocably right (best answer)         

b.   An answer that is true only to a limited extent vis-à-vis the question and therefore false. (Partially correct answer)              

c.   An answer that looks odd but is only possibly false. Any option that is partially false cannot be correct(Partially wrong answer)


d. An answer that is entirely false and  is very obvious if you have complete grasp of the question. (Worst answer)

22. Definitely, doing the easiest questions  first calms down the nerves and establishes your concentration for  other methods.

GOOD LUCK
