PASSING JAMB WITHOUT IGNORING THE PREMIER LEAGUE (PART2)

PASSING JAMB WITH LESS WORK AND WITHOUT CHEATING!(2)

BUILDING A FOUNDATION FOR JAMB TECHNIQUES(don’t be discouraged if things don't sound as simple as they were in part 1 cause this is the heart of what this write-up is all about)

1.The end result of studying is to create a useful exam scrapbook from which the student can recall information for use in the exam hall. The scrapbook therefore becomes a warehouse of knowledge if properly created and drawn up.

2. An exam scrapbook must be memorized to the extent that specific pages can be downloaded from your memory in  the exam hall to serve as boosters for  exam techniques to be used. You must know the format and content of good exam scrapbook. Don’t deceive yourself that exam scrap books and your regular study revision notes are the same because they are not! Remember that an exam scrapbook is extremely personal and cannot be  same for everyone .

3.You have got to study chapter/topic summaries, your notebooks and short note study packs. These will constitute the bank of knowledge which gives structure and funding for your warehouse of boosters(call on us if this is not clear to you or just send an e-mail).This is the most important part of your preparation; Without it, knowing the techniques will not be of any use. Though it is preferable to start it long before the exam, this will only make sure that you don’t have to study under pressure when the exams are near. However, some students prefer to start real work only a few weeks to the exams.

4.The tonic of study for JAMB lies in the use of past examination papers. It is a painless way of studying and is directly related to getting good marks. Unfortunately, many students do not use them correctly. Past question papers are not for ordinary self tests but  what we call technical self tests. They become technical when they are used in conjunction with examination techniques as in what is called the JAMB TECHNIQUES MATRIX. This is obtained by analyzing the techniques used for answering each question in each paper. Things getting a bit misty, not so? See the diagram and more explanation  on this later.

5.Also use past questions to find keywords in questions which will help you to cut out wrong options in the answers given. What are keywords? Please ask your tutors.

6.You should also use past questions with sample answer sheets to perfect the art of reducing unnecessary errors when filling answers to your questions. That is straightforward enough…not so?

7.Do not read/study indiscriminately but according to your plan.

8.Do not forget that group discussions constitute an important part of your study effort too in addition to regular classroom attendance and constant comparison of your study plan with what you   actually achieved.

9.In group discussions form a circle, let one person be the questioner and  others the answerers. But note that group discussions should take place after private study ONLY. And it should be for practice and not just for discussions. Also you can mark answer sheets of group tests for each other.

10.In addition to creating  an acceptable exam scrapbook  and discussion group(s), any topic that still appears dark to you, must be tackled through your tutors on  one-on-one basis or in a one-to-group basis especially those topics you feel strongly about which were not covered at school or tutorial college.

such respectful and happy relationships!…

11.Other popular  suggestions are also relevant such as:

-Finding a quiet place or spot for studies (if you are a day student use your school more often after school and  at weekends as the exam day approaches)

-Whenever you want to use a table for studies, clear the table and leave  only syllabus, exam scrapbook , your regular revision notes, Q/A booklet and samples of the answer sheets (please get copies of these from the school for you to copy) Arrange your table properly for studies as suggested earlier

- remember that it is possible for a student to read long or understand all the chapters and materials required and still get JAMB questions wrong. So you must always ask yourself why.

-But if you have a good study technique and a well prepared exam scrapbook, you will spend less time preparing for JAMB exams and have more time to master your JAMB techniques. As a rule, if you can link your scrapbook to your techniques in the exam hall, you will not have to keep on studying till the examination day!

-Supposing you or your friends have only a few days left or about a week to the exam and you are still feeling funny about the exams. Do not discuss with other students that you or they have not yet prepared  enough for the exams. Maybe you feel you have a very tight schedule with  little time left; don’t psyche yourself out of the game. Ban from your head the words “I am finished if I don’t pass JAMB this time”. Note that a certain amount of anxiety is normal and even useful when studying for the exam. Your techniques will become more important because they will help you to focus on what you know and not on what you fear you might not know.

…mason students at a maze…do not let jamb be like a maze for you because

it is not…please read on carefully…

-Above all strengthen your studies and general preparations regularly with prayers, prayer requests, fasting and sometimes night vigils. The JAMB war has to be total war against all forces. These forces are not to be toyed with because their machine is enormous and merciless. Some members of these forces are also part of your friends and I am sure some of you must have started wondering and suspecting how some of your mates hope to pass. They are  masquerading as students but have arranged SONTIN’(something) in advance for themselves. Be friendly but be awake. Keep a prayerful distance from your mates whom you suspect or pray for them if the Holy Spirit has revealed them to you as masquerades.

-Locate your examination center before the date of the exam. Go there physically to familiarize yourself with the place if allowed in.

-The day before the exam, get a good night’s sleep and avoid the use of stimulants. Also, have only a light meal before the exam to avoid feeling drowsy. Also pack in readiness all the evidential papers listed in the JAMB brochure to be presented at the examination centre. On the day of the exam, pray with your family and go ahead to the examination center.

SO WHAT ABOUT THE JAMB TECHNIQUES?…BE PATIENT WITH US PLEASE WE ARE PUTTING DOWN THE FOUNDATION FOR A SOLID STRUCTURE FOR YOU…PLEASE GO BACK AND READ THIS SECOND PART AGAIN ESPECIALLY PARAGRAPHS 2 TO 5…GOODLUCK.
