MEXICO WON’T SCORE AGAINST ME TODAY — ALAMPASU,NIGERIA’S GOALKEEPER
Golden Eaglets’ goalkeeper, Dele Alampasu, has acknowledged Nigerians’ support even after he made some mistakes in goal at the beginning of the Dubai 2013 FIFA Under 17 World Cup.
A now confident Alampasu has promised that there won’t be a repeat of such howlers in the final against reigning champions, Mexico.
The goalie was guilty of some questionable decisions in the Eaglets’ first two matches and his flaws were the talking points of Nigeria’s group stage matches.
However, having improved his performances in subsequent games till the semi final stage when he capped his inspiring displays with eye-catching saves that denied the Swedes an opportunity for a comeback, Alampasu said he in the form of his life ahead of the final against Mexico today.
Speaking with SportingLife in Dubai, the Football College Academy goaltender said he would ensure that he keeps his two-match clean sheet record intact in the final against the El Tri of Mexico today.
“We thank God for all he has done for us. We are in the final and are poised to battle the Mexicans to win the title.
“I had some off days in the group stage but I have overcome that now. I have not conceded any goal since the last the team conceded against Iran in the round of 16. I hope to extend the streak in the final against Mexico,” Alampasu assured Nigerians.
The Eaglets have scored 23 goals and let in only five in the six matches they have played before today’s final in Abu Dhabi against the defending champions.
